Country Living Fair buys!

As promised, here is what I picked up at the Country Living fair when I visited on Friday with my mum, who'd never been before and loved it.... Once you've got used to the shuffling and jostling in the crowds there are lots of lovely treasures to be found, I did have to restrain myself on a few things!

Firstly, I've been looking for a vintage tray for a while now, so when I spotted this one with gorgeous purple flowers & gold rim, I had to have it! I picked this up from the Acorn & Will stall whose cute and very kitsch range was attracting lots of shoppers...

Next, I couldn't resist the delights of Petra Boase's stall... I've bought things from her in the past as gifts, and it was tempting to buy one of everything for myself this time! Her designs are cheery and bright and so reasonably priced. I love the pink on this teatowel, which is brightening up my kitchen as we speak, and I also got some colourful cellotape and a cute notebook....

On to Indigo 11's stall, which has a neutral and rustic feel, and it was this pretty glass votive that caught my eye, priced at only £1.95 it would've been silly not to snap it up. Check out Indigo 11's website - as I think there is a wider range on here than seemed to be on display at the fair, some lovely ceramic door knobs, rustic photoframes & wicker items to be found....

I've had my eye on these cute porcelain labels for a while on Dee Puddy's website, so I grabbed one for my buttons jar! Also available were some nice vintage tins and pretty stationery....

I'm having a bit of a thing for old maps and globes at the minute, so this lovely mini globe had to come home with me! along with a new box of Prices candles which I love and which last for ages.... These were found on the Angel Bill Trading Company stall. There was a much more interesting range of vintage items at this stall than there seems to be on their website, so I guess worth catching them at a fair if you can...

And last but not least.... I have not yet mentioned our imminent new arrival at the end of April! We are soon to be sharing our home with a lovely little kitten! (names still under review!) So I was keeping my eyes peeled for some nice cat accessories, and this cute little bowl from Jane Hogben pottery just fitted the bill! I will post pics of him when he arrives in a few weeks! :)

Did you visit the Country Living Fair this weekend? What did u think/buy? I will be posting more about various exhibitors who stood out for me, so look out for those!

37 Old London Road

One of my favourite roads for shopping in Kingston Upon Thames is Old London Road - it is one of the only streets in the area that is not dominated by high street brands, having a mix of antique, charity & independent shops. It is far from amazing, but now Mary Queen of Shops has been along to give one shop with a bit of an identity crisis a fab makeover!

I was really excited to see with my own eyes what Mary had done with the place as I love the programme, and I have to say I wasn't disappointed! The shop now really stands out in the street, with a new stylish exterior....

and they are now stocking lots of great products from independent designers such as Catherine Hammerton's lovely cushions, wallpaper and tablecloths....

and Donna Wilson owl cushions (centre)

They've done a great job with the displays, I love the suitcases on the wall in the pic above, and the brightly painted furniture and uncluttered layout.

As well as the designer items there is lots of upcycled vintage furniture and unique pieces....

They've had a nice little website designed as well by Mary's team, although I have to say my one criticism would be the product photography - this could be greatly improved.
Apart from that, it is a fantastic job. I have to admit I would not have went in this shop before, as it didn't have any proper signage or identity outside, and the range had no direction - but now it is definitely a shop I will pop in regularly when looking for bits for the house!

Look out for the new series of Mary Queen of Shops, which is airing this Spring!

A Floating Conversion...

I am a big fan of the industrial look, and of quirky locations, so I loved these shots I came across on the All About You website which were originally featured in Coast magazine.
Originally a light vessel used by the nautical institution, photographer Michele Turriani has transformed it into a fantastic photographic studio...

my latest purchase!

you might remember a post a little while ago about a filing cabinet I'd seen from the Old Cinema, which I loved but didn't really need? well... I decided I did need it after all! :)

we collected it yesterday, and it fits perfectly next to the sofa, and is the right height to have the reading lamp on while relaxing with a magazine on the sofa! so pleased I took the plunge and bought it!

Adding some zing!

My equal love for calm, neutral tones and bright, eye catching colours, seem to be merging particularly well at the moment, with the current trend for keeping backgrounds muted and then adding zingy accessories. The Living Etc galleries have some great examples of how painting walls grey, lilac or just simple white can make a strong base for enhancing your bright accessories...

And I've just been checking out the Spring/Summer range at Habitat, who most definitely seem to be embracing this trend! It can also be extended to the garden, or outside space.... this lovely table would brighten up even the dullest of British summer days!

Here are some of my fave pieces from the range - I especially love the cushions - perfect for my grey sofa... and the deckchair!

What do you think? Is it all a bit too bright, and just a fad? Or is it just what we all need after and long and dreary winter?!

cute bird teatowels!

I am just loving anything with birds on at the moment (you might have seen my new wallpaper!) and that why I'm really excited to have a lovely new product in my shop....

These lovely teatowels are designed by illustrator Karin Akesson, featuring her hand drawn bird illustrations, and in the bottom corner the phrase "Today will be a great day"

They come in dark blue and turquoise, and are £9.95

Time for a Spring clean?!

So finally it seems like the UK may be heading for Spring! Its been a long old winter, but I am already feeling more motivated about things like getting out on bike rides, doing a bit in the garden and maybe even some Spring cleaning!
A Spring clean is as much about organising than it is about cleaning, so I am looking out for nice storage solutions for things like cleaning products, DIY tools, stationery etc.... and I've always been a huge fan of the Camouflage Company, and just love their latest designs....

I actually have one of these boxes in a different pattern, and it is a fab laundry basket, just the right size & folds down flat for storing away in the cupboard.
If you're not huge on florals, they also have this new design which looks like brown paper....

ooh, and if you are feeling brave enough to pack your winter duvet away already (I'm not just yet!) they do a fab bag for storing your duvet.....

Check out all their other goodies here.

Rugs on my radar...

I've never taken that much notice of rugs before... not sure why really, but now that I'm in the market for one (or two!) for our house I discovered a whole new world of rug delights!
Of course when your budget is tight, the chances of bagging the rug of your dreams is slim - they are so expensive! but it doesn't stop you browsing on the likes of the Rug Company's website!

Their styling is lovely, and helps to put the rug designs in a setting, which is often the hard part when you see them hanging in a shop...

all pics via

mmm... if money was no object I could choose one for every room!

another one which stands out, but is also sadly unattainable at £825, is this multi-coloured round rug from Heals....

and within budget? Graham & Green's range isn't bad....

Cotton Durry Rugs from £59

Springbok Skin Rug - £65

Circular Goat Skin Rug - £135

you might notice I'm not quite sure what I'm after! bright & folksy or fluffy and natural coloured?!
Or hey maybe I should start crocheting my own?! This doily rug was created by Jean Lee from Ladies and Gentlemen... amazing and so cute! :)
