Kitchen Lust

Goodness knows when we'll have saved enough cash to put in a new kitchen, but it doesn't stop you lusting over the likes of this, which I spotted in the new January issue of BBC Homes & Antiques magazine... it was in an advert for John Lewis of Hungerford, and I just love the pale blue cupboards against the copper sink.... ooh! the copper sink! I do love a traditional white Belfast sink - but there is something to be said for these copper versions! I think these are in fact from The Kitchen Sink Company and start at just over £1000 - I think we'll be saving for a LONG time to include that in our kitchen!
Here are some other lovely examples of what John Lewis of Hungerford can do on their website...

Vintage & Handmade gifts

This Christmas I would really love for all the gifts I buy to be either vintage or handmade, although I'm really not sure if I will manage this, especially for the men in the family - I doubt my Dad would appreciate a vintage tie or old radio from the car boot sale for example....! :)
But I am going to try my best for the people who i think will like it.
Last night I popped down to the launch night of Made in Clerkenwell to kick off my Christmas shopping, and rather than reveal what I bought, here are a few of my fave sellers! It is on until Sunday 28th Nov, so try and pop down, it really is great for picking up some unique gifts and its also really nice to meet some of the makers/designers.

Its definitely on its way!

I've been holding off on the Christmas posts as long as I could, but lets face it, its definitely gonna be here before we know it! And this year, I am finding myself thinking about it even more than usual, as we are 'having Christmas' at our house this year! The first time we will have cooked a turkey (lets hope it is cooked!) And mainly all I can think about is how to decorate the house! Lets hope I actually remember to buy some gifts too!
So just a little bit of Christmas decorating inspiration.... I LOVE the image above of the decorations in the jars - a great idea if you don't have the room or inclination for a tree... and I think it looks really classy.
I think a quite neutral classy table will be my plan - I've bought a vintage lace tablecloth from France (!) on ebay, so this with lots of candles and a white and silver theme I hope will look as nice as these above!
Oh and weirdly I like the idea of decorating with quail eggs! Not for eating (not for me anyway as I hate eggs!) But they are just so pretty!

Book Review: Romantic Style

Selina Lake is one of my favourite interior stylists - I interviewed her on here back in March, that's when I first heard about her new book Romantic Style, so I have been eagerly anticpating it since then! And finally it is on the shelves, and how beautiful it is!
Each page is a delight, and whether you want to create a 'romantic' home, or just want to steal a few ideas, there is something for everyone in here - and even if you not much of a 'girly girl'  there is still inspiration in there for the more modern, clean interior... I love the below living room...
In fact, the first half of the book is split into 'Vintage Romantic', 'Simple Romantic', 'Elegant Romantic' and 'Modern Romantic'
Saying that there are lots of pinks and whites, lace, flowers and pretty things! The bedroom is definitely one room where you can go a bit more on the feminine side!
Below is one of my favourite images from the book... I love the shots of hot pink against the white, the pretty display on the fireplace, and I really want a tablecloth exactly like this one!! oh and it just looks like a beautiful spring day!
Selina created this book along with the words of Sara Norrman, the stunning photography of Debi Treloar. Published by Ryland, Peters and Small - Buy Romantic Style here.

Current Obsession: Antlers

When in France in October staying with my other half's mum, we discovered a huge stuffed stag's head in the old barn.  With no idea how it came about to be there, we brought it in and unwrapped it, and quite majestic it was! There may be lots of differing views over taxidermy, but it seems it is definitely featuring heavily in modern interiors - whether real or faux. For me, there is just something lovely about the shape of antlers, and since the laws on taxidermy are much tighter nowadays, it seems more acceptable than it was 20 years ago.
For example these plaques from Pale and Interesting come from humanely culled roe bucks.... (from £39.95)
And these ones below are from Papa Stour are sourced after the twice yearly cull of the deer in the Scottish Highlands - they believe they are saving these sculptural items from ending up in the landfill.... (£94)
If you are not so keen on having the real thing in your home, there are lots of alternatives for adding some 'stag style'!
Aluminium heads from Graham and Green from £79
Stag mirror from Polly Westergaard £100
Stag Coat hooks and door knocker - both £19.99 from Rockett St George
Enormous Stag cushions - £129 from Pedlars

Time for bed....

So sorry for the lack of posts this week, its been another one of those weeks, where time flies past so quickly, that I can't believe it is Monday again so soon!
I've fitted lots in, apart from work and dealing with lots of Christmas orders coming in, I've been to a bloggers event which was really good fun, caught up with friends over dinner, petted lots of lovely dogs at the Discover Dogs show at Earls Court, and been to an engagement party! I am literally about to collapse into bed, and I hope this coming week is a bit more chilled and I can spend a little more time sleeping! So, as all I can think about is clambering into bed, here are some calming, serene bedroom pics! ahhh....
Goodnight! x
