Spring Clean

Spring is definitely my favourite season... gradually the dullness of winter begins to fade away, with the first little buds coming through, and the occasional morning of sun streaming through the window.  I love when I see the first daffodils coming out, and always try to have some around the house to make me smile... But its when that sun starts beaming in is also when I first see how much the house needs a good old clean! And I also get inspired to get on with the little jobs you've been meaning to do for ages.... Although I swear cleaning would be so much more enjoyable if i had a lovely organised utility room like one of these!

Interior Styling by Rebecca Newport

Today I am feeling inspired by the styling work of Rebecca Newport.  An interiors and food stylist, I particularly love her use of florals and ice cream colours! Making me feel Spring like, even though I am wearing about 3 jumpers and wishing I had gloves on while I type!

Rediscovered Treasures

So I think I've just found my first favourite book of 2011! 'Rediscovered Treasures  - A New Life for Old Objects' is filled with great new uses and craft projects for found items such as vintage plates, tins, fabric, jelly moulds and picture frames to name a few! It is written by Ellen Dyrop and Hanna Kristinsdottir, and was first published in Norwegian, and now the English translation has just been published by New Holland Publishers! yay!

Some of my favourite projects are making a magnetic notice board, from an old frame and some magnetic metal - then adding small magnets to the back of tin moulds! so simple and so lovely....
Or the old vintage tin turned into a clock... genius!

I love how the book is laid out - it is not too wordy - just short, concise descriptions with each picture, and then at the back of the book there are numerous more detailed instructions on the more complicated projects along with templates for the projects using fabrics.  And also a helpful directory for craft supplies too!
oh, and the best thing is it is only £6.19 on Amazon at the minute! It would be rude not too really!

Conran Style

Iconic British store The Conran Shop are currently running a competition to promote their new Spring range.  All you have to do is pick an item from their accessories range which is under £100, post it to your blog or Twitter and say why you like it, and you may be in with a chance of winning £100 Conran Shop vouchers! yes please! :)
For my own entry, I've went for a classic design, firstly because I am a big 'fan' of this product (sorry!), and secondly because I am really hoping after this freezing upon freezing winter we have had, we will actually be reminded at some point in 2011 what it is like to be too hot, and need to flick on this lovely Antique Chrome Desk Fan....!

Online Magazines

I've always been a 'curl up on the sofa with a cup of tea and my favourite mag' kinda girl, I love the experience of reading a magazine or for that matter a good book, but I like it in my hand, not on a screen.
BUT, I can't deny there are some really great online magazines out there.... Lonny, Sweet Paul and Rue are definitely 3 of my favourites.
And today I came upon Adore Magazine, an Australian online mag, and their fantastic 'British Edition'...

They've profiled one of my favourite interior stylist's Selina Lake and other fab British figures in the interiors world such as Abigail Ahern.  Lovely photography and some interesting features including a travel section that even us Londoners might find useful.  And you don't even have to leave the house to get your copy! Just click here!
I haven't come across any British based online publications similar to these... does anyone know of any?

Doily light shade

I am a big fan of reusing old items and breating new life into them, so I am totally in love with this light shade made from vintage doilies! Created by reMade founder Shannon South.  You can order online at her shop - but at $850 (just over £500) its definitely one to save for! I can't even say I can imagine how to go about recreating that myself! amazing!

the Modern Royal Wedding Tea Towel

Last weekend I was up in Birmingham at the Spring Fair trade show, looking for new products for the shop, and was amused by some of the Royal Memorabilia that was on show.  There is nothing wrong with a kitsch plate I have to say, but as for a cushion with WIlliam and Kate's faces on?! really?! At least with a tea towel (which apparantely is not acceptable merchandise according to Buckingham Palace) you can have that little souvenir but it is still tucked away in a drawer or put to use in the kitchen, not on your sofa for all to see (and snigger)
With just over 2 months to go to the big day, there may be some further alternatives to Royal Memoribilia popping up, but at the moment, a couple of my fave teatowels are these..... (how cute is the corgi?!)
